STEM4ALL Club - Richard Montgomery

Home Founding Members 4 Year Plan Resources Books

Introduction:

STEM4ALL is an inclusive high school club with the intention of expanding STEM opportunities to underrepresented populations, specifically targeting minorities and girls in K-12th grade. This student-led club will provide resources to the next generation in order to give everyone a chance to find their passion in STEM. There is an unfortunate underrepresentation of minorities and females within the STEM community. Providing STEM resources to everyone, while specifically focusing on these groups, will provide students opportunities to cultivate their passion for STEM. Overall, this club intends to ensure diversity in the students exposed to STEM so that everyone can be on an even footing in becoming the next generation of innovators and scientists in order to expand the perspective of the STEM world.

Mission Statement:

The goal of STEM4ALL, a high-school student-led program, is to create a passion for STEM in all elementary, middle school, and high school students no matter their background, identity, or gender. In the past, there has been a lot of stigma against women and minorities working in STEM, and the objective of this club is to break these stereotypes by introducing STEM to these students at a young age to garner students' passion for crucial topics relating to STEM. Additionally, STEM can seem complicated and unapproachable, but STEM4ALL will create a welcoming environment for students of all ages to find a fascination in STEM.

Objectives:

  1. Introduce STEM to every elementary, middle and high school student, no matter their background, identity, or gender.
  2. Cultivate a passion for STEM for students in K-12 in order to empower them by making it more accessible.
  3. Create more inclusion and diversity in the Montgomery County STEM community.
  4. Welcome collaboration between a diverse group of teachers, students, and STEM experts in order to cultivate equity in the future generations of STEM.
